Applications are now closed.
New opera is alive and thriving and Australia's best hidden talents are about to shine. Victorian Opera and Chamber Made Opera are once again putting the call out for new Australian opera proposals for the 2011 NOVA project following the success of the initiative in 2009/10.
A panel of recognised industry leaders including Robyn Archer, Centenary of Canberra festival Director, Deborah Conway, Artistic Director Queensland Music Festival and Kate Cherry, Artistic Director, Black Swan Theatre Company, alongside Richard Gill, Music Director of Victorian Opera, David Young Artistic Director of Chamber Made Opera and Brett Kelly, Resident Conductor of Chamber Made Opera will shortlist scores for a week long development workshop following a national call for submissions. The workshop will culminate in a presentation of the best new composers and librettists work in 2012.
"Without new work in the theatre we would all be starved. NOVA explores and presents new work. Without new work in the theatre our imaginations would dry up. NOVA is a well-spring of new musical life ideas and new thoughts in theatre. Without new work in the theatre we would be very dull people indeed. NOVA is a source of delight and discovery for all involved, NOVA is a word for NEW" - Richard Gill
