Starry, starry night – Victorian Opera presents a free gala concert of opera favourites and Broadway hits featuring some of Victoria's finest voices. In a unique setting, led by Victorian Opera Music Director Richard Gill and accompanied by Orchestra Victoria, be taken on a journey of musical delights and enjoy a program of popular arias, duets and ensembles.
Featuring highlights from some of the greatest operas: La bohème, Rigoletto, The Barber of Seville, Carmen and Puccini's Turandot, featuring 'Nessun Dorma' sung by Victorian Opera’s own three tenors. Also featuring songs from some of the best-loved musicals: Oklahoma!, Carousel, The King and I and A Little Night Music, featuring Steven Sondheim’s haunting 'Send in the Clowns'.
This opening night sits within the tradition of Moomba’s wonderful free concerts of yesteryear, which have previously featured acts such as the Victorian Ballet, ABBA and Neil Diamond. Looking back on the wonderful history of the Moomba Festival with uniquely presented imagery, the evening also features pre-show entertainment from Flying Trapeze Australia.
Bring along the whole family and a picnic rug to the banks of the Yarra and celebrate the start of Melbourne's favourite festival – Moomba.
