Through the Looking Glass

17-31 May | Alan John / Andrew Upton, after Lewis Carroll
Merlyn Theatre, CUB Malthouse

Presented by Victorian Opera and Malthouse Theatre

In this unprecedented rendering of a childhood classic, Victorian Opera and Malthouse Theatre produce something as original as the material that forms its source.

Lewis Carroll's everlastingly brilliant work Through The Looking Glass is given a very special treatment in the hands of composer Alan John, librettist Andrew Upton, and a cast of superb singers ready to journey well beyond the limits of conventional opera. Carroll and his peers play out the story in their Victorian drawing-room but, as in the story they enact, the boundaries of reality and fantasy, playfulness and truth, are soon revealed as shimmering phantoms liable to dissipate in a breath. Gaze into your looking-glass, crawl through the mirror over the fire-place and come into our world.

Alice, Alan and Andrew artfully
Link lovely, lively lines leading
Into infinitely interesting interiors, inviting ,
Charmingly curious creatures, cleverly creating
Eternally enthralling entertaining episodes.

Suitable for ages 10-100.
