The Coronation of Poppea

18, 20, 22, 24 & 26 July | Claudio Monteverdi / Giovanni Busenello
South Melbourne Town Hall, Australian National Academy of Music

Monteverdi's extraordinary operatic endeavour,The Coronation of Poppea, depicts a ruthless, ambitious woman determined to marry a maniacal emperor in an opera in which evil truly triumphs over good. It features brilliant young Australian countertenor David Hansen as the infatuated Nero and Tiffany Speight as the irresistible Poppea, whose charms and ambition propel her inexorably towards the throne.

The Coronation of Poppea is presented in association with the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM),whose musicians will join forces in the orchestra with some of our finest Australian and international baroque exponents, all set in the beautiful surroundings and acoustics of the South Melbourne Town Hall, ANAM's home.
