The Damnation of Faust

Victorian Opera began 2010 with the spectacular concert work, The Damnation of Faust by Hector Berlioz, at Hamer Hall.

With over 90 singers on stage, including the Victorian Opera Chorus joined by the National Boys Choir, as well as the full Orchestra Victoria, Faust was conducted by Victorian Opera Music Director Richard Gill. The evening saw Australian expatriates Julian Gavin return to the stage from London to sing the title role, and Pelham Andrews come from Berlin to sing Méphistophélès. Mezzo soprano Tania Ferris sang Marguerite, and David Hibbard (Oedipus Rex 2007) sang Brander.
