It's a busy time at Victorian Opera, rehearsals for Ariadne auf Naxos gather momentum, and rehearsals for Xerxes begin this week. For those who want to know more about either opera remember our entertaining and informative Discover Opera sessions with guest artists and Richard Gill are on 12 July for Ariadne auf Naxos and 2 August for Xerxes.

 

Victorian Opera is delighted to have come away from the Helpmann Award nominations with 5 nominations for The Coronation of Poppea from our 2008 season. Kate Cherry (Director), David Hansen (Nero), Tiffany Speight (Poppea) and Sally Wilson (Ottavia/Le Fortuna) were all nominated, with the production also being nominated as best opera.

Rehearsals for Ariadne auf Naxos continue in Horti Hall and as the show comes together the excitement and sense of anticipation is building. Tickets are selling fast, so book now to ensure you have a seat. There is limited availability.

Xerxes

Everyone at Victorian Opera breathed a sign of relief followed by a gasp of delight when John Verryt's set for Xerxes arrived in Australia from the workshop in Auckland, New Zealand.  The set, in four shipping containers, was unpacked and set up to ensure final touches were completed before its installation in Elisabeth Murdoch Hall, revealing a beautiful set with marble arches and walkways.

 

Breathtaking costumes by internationally renowned fashion designer Trelise Cooper and an outstanding cast featuring Tobias Cole and Tiffany Speight will make Xerxes an opera to delight the senses
