The Parrot Factory

The world premiere of this energetic and adventurous opera for children will be performed by Victorian Youth Opera.
Parrot Factory has a wonderful narrative with a libretto by poet Ross Baglin that will capture the imaginations of all children. With music by composer Stuart Greenbaum, this is an exciting new work for young people - directed by Nikki Wendt with sets and costume designs by well known Melbourne artist and sculptor Deborah Halpern.
The old widow Fossett - the richest woman in the world - has died, leaving behind a hidden treasure! Four Fossett parrots, which hold the secret of the hidden treasure, have disappeared. Can Elizabeth find her precious Cherubino with the assistance of Filbert, a private detective, or will the treasure, and Cherubino, be lost forever?
This youth opera will be rehearsed over a two week period in the schools holidays, and contains a cast including university students, as well as priimary and secondary students from metropolitan and regional Victoria. Musicall Directed by Richard Gill, an orchestra comprising universiy students will be conducted by Dan Carter (a member of Victorian Opera's Developing Artist Program).
