Victorian Opera welcomes 2010
"Music theatre is a predictable source of thrills but this year the heat may come from its wild-child relative, opera. Eyes and ears will be on the Victorian Opera as it goes into its fifth season" The Herald Sun, January 2010
Happy New Year
Victorian Opera is charging full steam ahead into the New Year. 2010 is our most significant season to date as we continue to increase the number of performances and education work offered. Our subscriber and audiences figures are already surging ahead of previous years. We thank you - we could not do what we do without you.
Our celebration of the voice continues with The Damnation of Faust concert just under 5 weeks away at Hamer Hall on 19 February, with over 90 singers on stage, including the Victorian Opera Chorus and the National Boys Choir. Opera in The Bowl and The Bear/ Angélique follow just a short way behind.
The Bear/Angélique - two exquisite one-act operas with wild women at their heart is on in the Playhouse, the Arts Centre from 10 - 20 March. Love blossoms over loaded pistols in Walton's The Bear, while Ibert's colourful Angélique torments her husband until finally he tries to sell her.
Tickets for the whole season are now on sale, and going fast - remember to book your seats early as select performances are already reaching capacity. Subscribing is a great way to save money and ensure seats for all performances.
