With the generous support of the Australian Government’s RISE Fund, Victorian Opera is delighted to announce a new Digital Outreach project sharing new Australian opera Parrwang Lifts the Sky across regional Victoria.
As an extension of the company’s school-based Access All Areas: Livestream Program, performing arts centres and cinemas will stream this world premiere opera in Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Shepparton, Warrnambool, and Mildura on Friday 11 June at 10.15am.
Established in 2018, Access All Areas: Livestream Program offers students a backstage guide to what opera is and how it’s made as well as a first-hand chance to experience it.
Across four free interactive workshops, streamed direct to classrooms in the weeks prior to the performance, students meet the singers, composer and director, explore the unique artistic characteristics of opera, and discover how an opera is brought to the stage.
- Workshop 1: What is opera? - Wednesday 19 May 2021, 10.30am
- Workshop 2: Exploring Wadawurrung culture - Wednesday 26 May 2021, 10.30am
- Workshop 3: Direction and design - Wednesday 2 June 2021, 10.30am
- Workshop 4: Moving into the theatre - Monday 7 June 2021, 10.30am
The performance will be streamed in six regional centres to offer children a live performance experience of a large-scale production.
Tickets to Parrwang Lifts the Sky are $5 per student. Schools receive one free teachers ticket for every 10 students booked. Additional teacher's tickets are $5 each.
