Franz Schubert

The Friends of Salamanca

Arts Centre Melbourne, Playhouse
19 Nov 2021 - 20 Nov 2021

It could be the script of a Hollywood rom-com: friends fall in love with each other’s friends.

Welcome to Salamanca, Spain. The weather is warm, the architecture is golden, and love is in the air.

Between castle parties and grape harvests, our hot-blooded Spaniards are out to woo their loves. But can they outwit the conceited Count Tormes? Never fear, there are only happy endings in this feel-good singspiel.

What better work for our annual Youth Opera than a carefree story of love and friendship between young people? In this rare opera from Schubert, the master songwriter, his humanity shines through every note. Sometimes all we need is a little help from our friends.

Come along for some fun in the Spanish sun. Tapas and tempranillo not included.
