23 August – Michael Lampard and Rhodri Clarke Duo

Acclaimed recital duo, Michael Lampard (baritone) and Rhodri Clarke (pianist) highlight the work of four living Australian composers in this unique recital. The program includes songs by Christopher Willcock, John Haddock, and excerpts from Richard Mills’ ‘Songlines of the Heart’s Desire’. Featured on the program is Matthew Dewey’s remarkable one-man ‘concert opera’ The Buzz of the Sea. With a libretto by Alexander Dick, this single dramatic scene takes the audience on a journey of one man’s self-discovery with some confronting realisations. From complexity to elegant simplicity, this program celebrates the breadth of colour and style which makes Australian art song unique in the world.

30 August – Nellie in Her Own Write

Nellie in Her Own Write is a charmingly realised portrait in word and song of one of Australia’s greatest daughters: Dame Nellie Melba. Using excerpts from Melba’s memoir, Melodies and Memories, eminent pianist Stephen McIntyre has crafted an homage to the life and times of the legendary soprano.

Melba’s artistry is evoked through performances of opera and song with which she was associated by singers from Melba Opera Trust (soprano Cleo Lee-McGowan, baritone Samuel Piper, and tenor Damian Arnold) and pianist Sharolyn Kimmorley.
