Mert Süngü began his vocal training at the Mimar Sinan University in his hometown of Istanbul, continued his studies at Scuola dell’Opera Italiana of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and, after specializing in baroque music, Mozart and bel canto, he became a member of the young ensemble at Semper Opera Dresden with whom he still is closely associated.
His career has taken him to Deutsche Oper Berlin, Stuttgart State Opera, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Teatro Filarmonico in Verona, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, Opéra de Lyon, Grand Théâtre in Geneva, Bolshoi Opera in Moscow as well as to the Festival in Aix-en-Provence. He works regularly with conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Michele Mariotti, Lorenzo Viotti, Diego Fasolis, Christian Thielemann and Omer Meir Wellber. His repertoire includes roles like Il Conte Almavia (Il Barbiere di Sivilgia), Tonio (La fille du régiment), Percy (Anna Bolena), Roberto (Roberto Devereux), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Zauberflöte), Nadir (Les pêcheurs de perles). He recorded operas and chamber music CDs under DECCA and NAXOS and his performances appeared live on national and art TV channels such as: RAI, ORF, ARTE, ZDF.
