Ballarat Opera Festival

Victorian Opera is excited to launch the Ballarat Opera Festival as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to the cultural life in Ballarat and regional Victoria. Spread out across the year, the festival will consist of a celebration of song through three main events, all of which showcase Victorian Opera’s strong partnership with local performing arts groups and the people of Ballarat.

After the success of The Big Sing in 2023, this cornerstone event of the festival will return, continuing Victorian Opera’s partnership with the Ballarat Choral Society and other community organisations. In addition, 2024 will see the inclusion of a fully staged opera along with a lecture and recital series.

Victorian Opera’s new Artistic Director, Stuart Maunder AM, said,

“Welcome to the second Ballarat Opera Festival presented by Victorian Opera. At Victorian Opera, we seriously like to celebrate; our artists, our art form, our audience, and Ballarat. With three exciting offerings throughout 2024, we look forward to building our audience, showcasing new talent, giving local artists the chance to collaborate, giving students their first taste of our glorious art form, and all the while discovering new challenges and learnings.
