Welcome to the Victorian Opera Youth Chorus Ensemble

VOYCE is a dynamic training and performance program for aspiring singers aged 15 to 21, offering weekly rehearsals, expert coaching, and the opportunity to work alongside leading industry professionals. Led by music educator Angus Grant, the program focuses on dramatic storytelling through singing, text delivery, movement, and performance.

Throughout the year, participants receive training from professional singers, repetiteurs, and directors, while also gaining opportunities to perform in Victorian Opera youth and mainstage productions. VOYCE is an ideal pathway for young performers seeking to build their experience, confidence, and artistry in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Rehearsals: Tuesdays during school terms, 5:45pm to 7:45pm
Location: Hemstritch Studio, Horti Hall, 31 Victoria Street, Melbourne

Excursions for 2027 (TBC):

• Excursion 1: General Rehearsal for The Marriage of Figaro at Horti Hall on Wednesday 10 March.
• Excursion 2: Opening Night of A Streetcar Named Desire at Palais Theatre on Tuesday 29 June (Winter holidays).
• Excursion 3: Opening Night of Der Freischütz at Palais Theatre on Tuesday 29 September (Spring holidays).

Masterclass with Victorian Opera’s Artistic Director – Term 3 (TBC)

Attendance to the excursions is not compulsory but affords insight into how our company runs its rehearsals and the diversity of productions it stages. It also exposes participants to a variety of repertoire building their understanding and pushing their skill development.

Times for General Rehearsals are yet to be confirmed. Behind the scenes talks are subject to change based on the availability of the creative teams.
