The Union Theatre, a 398-seat proscenium arch theatre complete with orchestra pit and fly tower, is a showstopper in its own right. Towering 50 meters high, it’s the only theatre across all University campuses with a fly tower allowing theatre productions to shine.

Food and beverage

  • ST ALi’s Theatre Bar (Level 2 of the Arts and Cultural Building,) will be open from 1 hour pre-show and during intermission with a range of drinks and snacks available.

The spaces created in the Arts and Cultural Building have been designed to be accessible and inclusive to all.

Union Theatre features include:

  • Wheelchair access and seating
  • Elevators, escalators and staircases allow for various access paths to Level 2 theatres
  • There are accessible toilets available in the Arts & Cultural Building on all levels with Gender neutral toilets are available on levels 1 and 3
  • The venue offers a hearing assist system, and infrared pendants are available and may be collected from Box Office prior to performance
  • Registered assistance animals are welcome with drinking water can be provided on request

Accessible Parking

You can drop off audience members and performers via Monash Rd. Enter via Gate 4 on Swanston St.
There is a roundabout so you can turn around and go back out to Swanston St.

  • The Arts & Cultural Building is located within the University of Melbourne Parkville campus.
  • There are two main entrance points onto the campus from Swanston St – either down Monash Road (Gate 4) or via the Amphitheatre closer to Grattan St (Gate 6).
  • The Union Theatre is on Level 2.

Accessible Parking & Drop Off

Guests can be dropped off and picked up by taxi, ride-share or personal vehicle at the circular Gate 4 entrance at top of Monash Rd off Swanston St within a 30m distance to main door of building.

There are limited accessible drop off parking spaces available at the Gate 4 entrance for a 15-minute time period. Longer-term Accessible parking within the Ace Parking carpark with additional street parking available on Faraday Street.

Catch any Swanston St tram to Stop 1 – Melbourne University tram stop to enter the campus via Monash Road (Gate 4) or the Amphitheatre (Gate 6). Watch this handy video to help you find the venue.
